Practitioners’ Manual for Public Engagement

This Practitioners’ Manual for Public Engagement is a product which was developed out of the extensive material produced through the Enhanced Consultation Strategy in Cardiff, Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent (funded by the Welsh Government’s ‘Making the Connections’ Fund). Participation Cymru edited the manual and produced a ‘How to’ guide for public engagement practitioners. The Practitioners’ Manual for Public Engagement is the result of this work. A group of consultation officers within Local Authorities and other interested parties advised on the progress of this work in order to test out its usefulness and accessibility.

This guidance is aimed at officials in public service organisations in Wales who work in the frontline of engagement with service users. It is a step-by-step handbook which will guide practitioners from the beginning of the planning process through to the end of the evaluation of the activity. The Practitioners’ Manual is designed to accompany the National Principles for Public Engagement in Wales (add in-bound link), which aim to offer a consistent approach and good standard for public engagement across Wales.
